Administration

Shane NeaceAdministrator / COO

Shane joined the Riverside staff in 2015 because of his strong belief in the power of a Christian education.   Not only is Shane passionate about seeing students seek after Christ individually, he enjoys fostering an environment where spiritual growth is encouraged daily.  Shane is also the Administrator at The Well Church and stands firm on the truth that with Jesus #1, everything else falls into place.

 

Meg Asher – Principal

Meg is from Galion, Ohio and a 2011 graduate of Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. While in college, Meg encountered the crazy love of Jesus Christ and decided that her life was going to be about something bigger than herself. She graduated with an Education degree in Integrated Social Studies and planned on teaching abroad or in an inner city school system. After many unexpected rejection letters, Meg found herself on a road trip to Kentucky for an impromptu interview. While exploring Breathitt County, it was obvious that Jesus had something big in store for her in Eastern Kentucky. Since being at Riverside, Meg has grown to love the area and is excited to see how the Lord will continue to move!  Meg is serving as Principal for grades K-12.

 


 

Elementary

Karisha FrileyKindergarten

Karisha is a Breathitt County native and very blessed to be teaching Kindergarten this year.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in K-6 Elementary Education and her Masters and Rank I in Special Education K-12.  This is her 9th year teaching and she’s happy to begin the next step in her teaching career in a Christian environment.  Karisha is married to Chris and they have one daughter, Olivia, who is 16 years old.  They love to relax, binge watch Netflix as a family, and cuddle with their 2 fur babies, Daisy and Molly.  Karisha is blessed with her position at Riverside and is excited to see what the future brings with her kindergarten students.

Stephanie Gibson – 1st and 2nd grade

Born in Arizona, Stephanie and her family have lived in Hazard, KY since she was 13.  She attended Rosedale Bible College, receiving an A.A. in Biblical Studies with a concentration in Education.  She then enrolled at Alice Lloyd College, earning a B.A. in English with a History minor.  Her work study assignment at Alice Lloyd for three years was in the daycare center on campus, working with ages 6 weeks to 5 years.  She also spent three summers tutoring reading at Hindman Settlement School.  She loves watching children learn and seeing it “click” for them when they grasp a concept for the first time.  She loves reading and creative writing and anything that gets her into the outdoors!

 

Sara Fisher 1st and 2nd grade aide

Sara Fisher grew up in Logan, OH where she was home-schooled through high school. Sara moved to Riverside in 2017 and this is now her second year as teacher’s aide in the 1st and 2nd grade classroom. She enjoys working with Mrs. Gibson and seeing her students’ progress during the school year. In her free time, Sara enjoys listening to music, reading books, and watching movies.

 

Joanna Pyle – 3rd & 4th

Joanna Pyle is originally from northern Indiana. In 2013 she moved to Jackson, Kentucky where she attended Kentucky Mountain Bible College. In 2017 she graduated with a BA in Bible & Theology. After graduation she immediately began taking classes for her MA in Christian Ministry at Wesley Biblical Seminary. Soon she felt God calling her back to Kentucky, not as a student but as a servant for Him. She was thrilled to accept a position at Riverside and is very excited to share the love of Jesus with her students and their families. She’s eagerly anticipating a good first year at Riverside.

 

Rachel Fisher – 5th & 6th

Rachel Fisher grew up in Logan, OH where she was home-schooled along with her eight siblings. Rachel began working with children while in high school and has taught in India and Nepal as well as the U.S. She moved to Riverside immediately after earning her B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Ohio Christian University in 2015. After teaching 3rd and 4th grade for a year, Rachel moved to Virginia for a year to earn her Master’s Degree in TESOL from EMU, but returned to Riverside in 2017 and this is now her second year teaching the 5th and 6th grade class. In her free time, Rachel loves to read, listen to music, and hike.

 

Becky Baker – Physical Education

Becky Baker first came to Riverside as an elementary teacher in 1971 with a desire to serve God in full-time Christian ministry. When her job required her to teach physical education and coach basketball, she resumed her education in physical education. Eventually, her love of exercise physiology led her to leave Riverside in 1981 to pursue a graduate degree in exercise science, but God graciously brought her back 20 years later. Since her return, she has served as an elementary teacher, physical educator, photographer, computer teacher, and more. She loves Riverside and feels fortunate to be working with such a  faithful, faith-filled, encouraging group of Christian servants. Some of her favorite things to do in her spare time are playing tennis, gardening, and spending time with her two dogs.

 


High School & Jr. High

Mack Asher-  Mack was born and raised in Oneida, KY. Growing up, his parents were teachers at a vocational school in Clay County. Not only were they teachers but they also bred and raised dogs for a living, which started his life with a passion for animals. Starting out in life Mack thought he going to become a veterinarian, but quickly realized the vet life wasn’t for him.  While in high school he met some peculiar people that always wanted to talk about Jesus, which not only helped him gain a love for Jesus but it also stirred him into a life of salvation. After high school Mack attended Alice Lloyd College to play tennis and figure out what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.  Thanks to some amazing influences he found a crazy passion for teaching. Mack graduated with a Math Education degree for grades 5-9. He is currently the junior high math teacher as well as the freshman and sophomore Bible teacher. Mack is also a cross country coach, as well as a chess coach for the school.

 

Alex Byrd –  Alex was born in Louisville and grew up moving around eastern Kentucky for most of his early childhood.  His family eventually settled in Pike County and Alex  graduated from Shelby Valley High School. After doing some life learning he went to college at Alice Lloyd, finished a degree, and came to know the Lord through some strong friends and a good minister. He finished his degree with a minor in Chemistry and a B.S. in Biology. He went to chiropractic college in Spartanburg, South Carolina and married his college sweetheart. Alex and his wife, Christina, became truck drivers and traveled through United States.  Eventually Alex accepted a teaching position at Riverside where he now teaches science for grades 7-12.

 

Ethan Gibson – Ethan was born and raised in Leslie County, KY and graduated from Alice Lloyd College with a degree in the Liberal Arts. Ethan’s study was in mathematics, but shares an interest in English and History as well. Before coming to Riverside, Ethan’s wife, Stephanie Gibson, had already been serving the school for several years. Ethan found his love of Christ in college, having been baptized at the Somerset Church of God just before he graduated. He became heavily involved in young adult ministries at Alice Lloyd College, such as the local chapter of BCM and the Hindman Student Ministries. Now Ethan is following his wife into the full time service of Christ by teaching the high school math curriculum at Riverside. Ethan and his wife Stephanie now attend Little Cane Creek Baptist Church where they help to lead worship, and teach the youth Sunday school and Bible studies. In his spare time Ethan likes to keep himself busy by spending time with his wife, studying the Word, reading, watching movies, and playing games.

 

Tyler Henry – Tyler is from a very small town in south-western Ohio, called Covington. He was a 2018 graduate from Ashland University, which is in northern Ohio. There he graduated with dual majors, Religion and Sport Communications. While in school, Tyler felt the call to live his life as a servant to the Lord. His first step of post-grad, was to move to eastern Kentucky, and witness the incredible, unconditional love of Jesus to the kids and families that he will encounter at Riverside. He’s very excited to see what his first year has in store, and ready for an incredible experience.

 

Lindsay Foster – Lindsay grew up in Albany, Kentucky and graduated from Morehead State University with major in History and minor in English. Before coming to Riverside, she was a substitute teacher for the Clinton County School District, where she graduated from high school in 2004. Lindsay has a passion for Colonial and Revolutionary American studies as well as 20th Century European history. This is her first year at Riverside, where she teaches several social studies classes as well as science. Lindsay is a devout lover of Christ who enjoys being involved in several ministries, including music, youth/teenage ministries, and conducting several Bible studies. At home in Albany, she attends Albany United Church of the Nazarene. She also enjoys attending Solid Rock Fellowship in Hazard. She continues to study the Bible regularly and chooses Romans 5:8 and Romans 8:38-39 as her two favorite Scriptures. Lindsay is a musician and leads the chapel worship team at Riverside.

 

Nancy Hostetler – Nancy grew up in Ohio and received a B.A. degree with an English major from Ashland College. Doran, her fiance at that time, fell in love with Riverside and the couple  went forward together for full-time Christian service, were married, and came to Riverside to stay. Although Nancy had gone to church all her life, it was Doran who really helped her come to know Jesus as her personal savior. Nancy has been teaching high school English for over 50 years here. She has also taught journalism, speech, French drama and Bible. This year her primary responsibilities include writing PR updates for the local newspaper, writing and editing for The Beacon, Riverside’s newspaper and working on a second volume of Riverside’s history (the last 50 years). Nancy says joyfully she would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

 

Jen Huber – Jen came to us from Atmore, Alabama, where she had taught in a small Christian school for eight years.  She is a 2010 graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.  She has her B.S. in Education with minors in Psychology and Christian Counseling.  She is now in her third year of teaching here at Riverside.  This year Jen is teaching junior high/high school math classes as well as Spanish I and Home Economics as well as leading the Student Council.  After serving at Bethel Camp for several summers and talking with different people connected with Riverside, Jen felt God calling her to teach here at Riverside.  She thoroughly enjoys living in the mountains of Kentucky and living in community at Riverside.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, and cheering for Alabama football.

 

Marcia Thompson – Marcia graduated from Gordon College with a B.A. in Biology and from Pace University/New York Medical College Graduate School of Nursing with an M.S.N.  After spending 25 years in the nursing profession, she felt that God was providing an opportunity for a career change, and she joined the Riverside staff in 2000. Marcia currently teaches middle and high school Bible classes. She enjoys spending time with her animals including 2 dogs and 1 horse and 3 barn cats. Marcia truly has a passion for teaching and seeing spiritual growth in her students.

 

James White – James was born in Hazard, Kentucky. James mostly grew up in Breathitt County in the River Caney community. Although, life and other issues called James away from Kentucky for several year. James holds a PhD in Leadership Studies (Tennessee Temple University now part of Piedmount International University), M.A. Christian Ministry (Friends University) and B.S. Christian Ministry (Tabor College). James spent several years as a substitute school teacher for the Wichita, KS public school system and doing pulpit supply for many churches in the Oklahoma and Kansas region for various churches. In 2016, James moved back to his old Kentucky home after prayer and circumstances made it happen. Jesus has a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and loves Jesus with his whole being. Jame’s goal in life is that when his name is mentioned a person thinks of Jesus and not him. Among the hobbies James has includes a love of nature especially the mountains and engaging in the natural beauty God has given us. Jesus also loves the night sky and stars. In addition, he enjoys exercising and weight lifting.  Further, James loves music and learning. James favorite authors are C.S. Lewis and G. K. Chesterton. One of the mottos of James is to never stop learning, because God’s world is a fountain of knowledge and wisdom. So drink heavily from that fountain of knowledge and wisdom.
